ipads

I have had several teachers recently contacting me to see how to make good use of their new ipads in their art classrooms. I have given them a few simple ideas but it's hard when I am not in the classroom everyday. I am going to visit the art teacher Chelsea Meyer in Waverly to see how she incorporates it into her teaching.  We are going to do some work on how to assess kids through Voicethread and Flickr in a few weeks, then plan a project with her students and mine.
Looking for a good drawing app for the ipad and possibly some animation apps too.  Any suggestions?
Thanks, Wendy

    PhotoSynth: Panoramic Photos
    Bamboo Paper: Drawing App
    Draw: Drawing App

Some other things one could do with an iPad would be have students upload an original piece of art they created and have other students/the rest of the world react to the artwork. I imagine this could bring in some interpretation, reflection, and the like. You could do this using the camera, flickr, and wordpress apps. If the artwork was something that could be scanned in, then really all you would need would be the flickr app and/or the wordpress app. To drum up an audience, the teacher could connect their class with other art classes from around the world using a site like ePals.com. This is a site that connects other schools that want to expand their classroom beyond their local community, or even state. Kind of pen palish. Another option would be http://education.skype.com/ which is very similar to ePals.

If you search through the app store long enough you will probably find an app that would work well enough to have students create some kind of artwork using the iPad. I know I've seen a number of amazing pieces of art completed using the iPad. I haven't been in an art class since 8th grade so I'm not sure I could tell you which apps would be the good apps, but the ones above should get you started.

If there is anything else I can do, let me know.
