Here is list of things that I will be trying new this semester with my students.
1) E-portfolio- Using the UNI Teacher Ed Portfolio site. In the past my students have done a binder version.
2) We will be spending an entire class sessions (3 hours) talking about technology in the Social Studies Classroom with NU High teacher Courtney Claussen.
3) Pairing my students up and having them write a true differentiated lesson plan. Not a traditional lesson plan with adaptations for one or two students but for the many different types of learners.
Sounds interesting Chad! What is the UNI Teacher Ed Portfolio site? I wouldn't mind taking a look at it myself. I think having your students write a DI lesson plan for all learners is a great idea. It sometimes can be easy to think about accommodating special needs students, but there is certainly a benefit in having options for all learners. If there is anything I can do to help with the ePortfolios or in regards to using technology in the social studies classroom, let me know. Those are two of my favorite things!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you follow the social studies hashtag on Twitter, but here they are: #socialstudies #sschat #historyteacher #geographyteacher. Another good one for educational technology in general is #edtech. You can find more hashtags to follow here if your interested: http://edudemic.com/2011/10/twitter-hashtag-dictionary/
Have a good week!
Dan
Chad, I'm working with my elementary ed students to differentiate their lesson plans to meet the needs of many learners as. I would like to share what we are doing with you and in turn see how you are structuring yours.
ReplyDeleteI am also curious about e-portfolios. We create a teacher webpage in art ed instead of an e-portfolio. Do you teach them how to set up the e-portfolio or does someone from IT work with your students? My students don't take Ed Tech in the classroom so they don't learn about it.
I too am interested in learning more about the e-portfolio you are doing. I've had students create their Professional Portfolios using Google Sites and also have had them do Audit Trail websites using Weebly (thanks Wendy for introducing me to this!) and found Weebly to be much more user friendly. I look forward to learning from your work this semester!
ReplyDeleteWith all the talk of ePortfolios, I thought I'd share Leigh Zeitz's (C&I) ePortfolio Made Easy site: http://dpme.org/. This may be helpful as you continue to work on ePortfolios with your students.
