What's up in Art Education...

Hi everybody!

I have been blogging with my students for two years now in my Issues and Theories in Art Education course. We have a very short amount of class time since it is only a 2 credit class. So to continue the conversation and to share resources on the issues we are discussing, I post it all on the blog. My students each have a blog that is linked to the main blog and they must comment on each other's as part of their grade.
See http://issuesandtheories.blogspot.com/
I also use Edmodo over e-learning for my classes because it looks like facebook and it is very user friendly. It has a library for the articles, links, and handouts. My students often post questions on the page for everyone or anyone to answer. It seems to have more of a community feel to it then our e-learning page did.
What I want to learn this semester is Voicethread as a new assessment tool in art education. Anyone familiar with that?
 Thanks,  Wendy

  1. Thanks Wendy for sharing these great ideas with us! Your class blog is awesome - I love that you are using the Ayers text and linked that interview here. How do your students like Edmodo? Do you ever have any problems with it? I want to learn more about this - a student introduced me two it a few semesters ago after her family member (an elementary teacher) started using it. I am familiar with VoiceThread, but haven't used it yet. A teacher that I did my podcasting dissertation with used it, but it seemed like she had limited options without paying for it. Perhaps that's changed a bit. I look forward to learning how you make VoiceThread work. Thanks!

    1. Sarah,

If you decide to use VoiceThread with your students at Lincoln, there is an iPad app that should facilitate the lesson. You can download it here. The best part is that it's free!

  2. I've used VoiceThread a few times and like how easy it is to have multiple people contribute to a single podcast. It appears VoiceThread has gotten better since I used it last so I'm going to need to check it out again. Looks powerful. Here are some videos that explain VoiceThread a bit:
